Triskaideka

Triskaideka(philia/phobia) (Greek) dfn: Tris meaning 'three', kai meaning 'and', deka meaning 'ten', philia meaning 'love' and phobia meaning 'fear'. As we approached the end of 2012, there was much discussion about the good and bad fortunes linked to the year 2013. The Irish Motor Industry introduced a new car registration system (from '13' to '131') for fear that sales would drop because of the superstitions associated with purchasing a '2013' registered vehicle. With this project, I wanted to look further into these superstitions and found that there were both good (philia) and bad (phobia) cultural associations to the number 13. The resulting booklet was sent to friends and clients as we neared the end of 2012.
